Our League's annual meeting will be held Saturday, January 28, 2012, beginning at 3:00 p.m. in New Haven. We hope that at least one representative (captain or other registered player) from each team will attend, but of course anyone is welcome.
During the meeting, we will elect a new League President, Secretary and Registrar. Being a member of the Board is fun and not that much work (mostly at the beginning of each season). It's a great way to be involved in the League, as well as our parent organization, CSSA. If you would like to nominate yourself or another registered player, please let me know by December 15. I will distribute the list of nominees at the beginning of January, along with an agenda for the meeting.
Speaking of the agenda, if any of you would like to suggest a topic for discussion, please let me know that by December 15 as well.
All officers serve for a two-year term. Job descriptions are below -- but please feel free to ask the incumbent or any of the current officers for more information:
President:
The President shall preside at all general meetings of the League and of the Board of Directors. The President shall be ex officio a member of all committees, except any nominations committee; shall appoint all chairs of standing and special committees subject to ratification by the Board; coordinate all duties of the Board, committees, and staff; and shall be the spokesperson for the League. The President may delegate any or all of these responsibilities to another person. The President will serve as Chair and oversee the responsibilities of the Disciplinary Committee as outlined in the League Rules.
Secretary:
The Secretary shall keep a record of all minutes of the organization; keep on file all committee reports; conduct the general correspondence of the organization that is not the proper function of another office or committee; prepare, prior to each meeting in consultation with the presiding officer, an order of business; and in the absence of the President and Vice-President to preside until the immediate election or appointment of a new presiding officer.
Registrar:
The Registrar shall coordinate all registration functions and activities for individual and team membership in the League, issue certified rosters and player passes in accordance with the League Rules, and shall report to the Board of Directors at least twice a year, or as otherwise requested. The Registrar is also responsible for submitting rosters to CSSA as required.
If you want more information about the league, the By-Laws and League Rules are on the NWSL website (www.nutmegwomen.com) in the Documents section.
